Meet Dhvani
Hello! I’m an Assistant Professor of Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Strategy at the University of Rhode Island College of Business.
My research interests include economic short-termism and time horizon in strategy; executive compensation; corporate purpose, stakeholder and ESG strategy; and strategic leadership.
As a scholar, I seek to understand how managers incorporate time horizons into their decision making, and more broadly, whether and how this relates to ESG or stakeholder strategy. My dissertation, currently in the works, takes a robust look at the inner workings of the time mechanism inherent to managerial incentives—and is built upon a unique, bespoke data set assembled through manual extraction of data from SEC filings.
This topic interests me because of its practical implications for society. For example, the United Nations Global Compact aims to combat short-termism in the capital markets, partially via encouraging publicly traded corporations to rethink their executive compensation structures. However, there is a lack of clear evidence and guidance for how best to accomplish this when it comes to time-based incentives.
